1. Download the Dhan App:

There are two ways to initiate the account opening process:

  • Mobile App: Visit the Dhan website (https://dhan.co/) and click on "Start Now" to download the Dhan app on your smartphone. Play Store (Android) and App Store (iOS) links might also be provided.

  • Desktop Account Opening: Alternatively, you can open an account directly from your desktop computer. On the Dhan website, look for a section or button labeled "Open Demat Account" or similar wording.

2. Enter Mobile Number and Email:

  • Provide your valid mobile number and email address.

  • Dhan will send a One-Time Password (OTP) for verification to your mobile number. Enter the OTP to proceed.

3. Upload Documents:

  • You'll need to upload scanned copies of the following documents:Proof of Identity (POI): PAN Card (preferred) or Aadhaar Card (if PAN not available).
    Proof of Address (POA): Aadhaar Card (if used for POI), Passport, Voter ID, Utility Bill (electricity, water, etc.), or Bank Statement (latest).
    Passport-sized Photograph
    Bank Account Details: Enter your bank account details to link it with your trading account.

4. E-Sign the Documents:

  • Dhan uses a digital signature process (e-Sign) to finalize the account opening. You'll receive a one-time password (OTP) on your registered mobile number to complete the e-signing process.

5. Account Activation:

  • Once you submit the documents and complete the e-signing, Dhan will review your application. This usually takes less than an hour. You'll be notified via email and SMS once your account is activated and ready for use.

Dhan has one of the most intuitive interface. It offers zero brokerage for equity delivery trades (normal stock purchase). It charges a moderately low demat debit fee. It does not offer research reports or handholding for new investors. It is a good app for new investors as well as daily traders.
