HDFC Credit Card Reward Devaluation 2026: Cashback Reduced By 25%-35% Across Multiple Cards - Check Your Card Here

reward devaluation 2026

HDFC Bank has announced key changes to credit card rewards, fees, and charges, effective from 15 May 2026. Under the HDFC Credit Card Reward Devaluation 2026, the bank has revised the reward point calculation for several popular credit cards, along with changes to Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) charges and card re-issuance fees.

As an existing credit card holder of HDFC Bank or anyone looking to apply for a credit card from the bank, here's what you need to know about the latest credit card reward changes by HDFC Bank in 2026.

Impact of HDFC Credit Card Reward Devaluation 2026

The new reward rules will probably affect the most users of Regalia, Regalia Gold, MoneyBack, Freedom, Diners Privilege and other cards that fall under their classification.

  • Users will get 25% to 35% less reward points for the same number of purchases.

  • The rewards may be more substantial for people who spend a lot.

  • The effective cashback/reward value of these will be reduced.

  • Infinia cards and Diners Black cards aren't affected.

Which HDFC Credit Cards Are Affected?

The revised reward point calculation will apply to many HDFC Bank credit cards, including:

  • Regalia

  • Regalia Gold

  • Regalia First

  • MoneyBack

  • MoneyBack Plus

  • Freedom

  • Diners ClubMiles

  • Diners Privilege

The same reward structure will apply across other eligible cards mentioned by HDFC Bank.

Which HDFC Cards Are Not Affected?

The good news is that some of HDFC Bank's premium and co-branded cards remain unchanged.

There is no change in reward point accrual for:

  • Infinia

  • Infinia Metal

  • Diners Black

  • Diners Black Metal

  • BizBlack

Similarly, cashback and cashpoint earning rules remain unchanged for:

  • Millennia

  • Tata Neu Infinity

  • Tata Neu Plus

  • Swiggy HDFC Credit Card

  • Paytm HDFC Credit Card

  • PhonePe HDFC Credit Card

  • Biz First

If you own one of these cards, your reward or cashback earning rate will continue as before.

Before vs After: Reward Points Calculation Examples

Let's understand how the change from ₹150 spends to ₹200 spends affects reward point earnings with a monthly spend of ₹20,000.

Example: HDFC Regalia Credit Card

HDFC Regalia credit card

Suppose you spend ₹20,000 in a month.

Earlier Rule

  • Eligible units = ₹20,000 ÷ ₹150 = 133

  • Reward Points = 133 × 4 = 532 RP

New Rule

  • Eligible units = ₹20,000 ÷ ₹200 = 100

  • Reward Points = 100 × 4 = 400 RP

Impact: You earn 132 fewer reward points on the same spending amount.

Example: HDFC Regalia Gold Credit Card

HDFC Regalia gold Credit Card

Earlier Rule

  • ₹20,000 ÷ ₹150 = 133 units

  • 133 × 5 = 665 Reward Points

New Rule

  • ₹20,000 ÷ ₹200 = 100 units

  • 100 × 5 = 500 Reward Points

Impact: You earn 165 fewer reward points after the change.

Example: HDFC Freedom Credit Card

HDFC Freedom Credit Card

Suppose you spend ₹20,000 in a month.

Earlier Rule

  • Eligible units = ₹20,000 ÷ ₹150 = 133

  • Reward Points = 133 × 1 = 133 RP

New Rule

  • Eligible units = ₹20,000 ÷ ₹200 = 100

  • Reward Points = 100 × 1 = 100 RP

Impact: You earn 33 fewer reward points after the change.

Reward Point Value:

The redemption rate for each redemption varies depending on the different cards. The reward points for premium cards, such as Regalia and Diners, are around ₹0.50 per reward point, while for entry-level cards such as MoneyBack and Freedom, it is ₹0.25 per reward point. Thus, the drop in reward points when the new spending rule of ₹200 comes into force also means cardholders will earn fewer rewards. New Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) Fee

HDFC Bank has also revised its Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) charges.

Starting 15 May 2026, the DCC markup fee will be:

1.75% per international transaction conducted in Indian Rupees (INR).

The charge will apply when:

  • You make an international purchase in INR at an overseas merchant.

  • You make a transaction in INR with a merchant located in India but registered in a foreign country.

What is Dynamic Currency Conversion?

Dynamic Currency Conversion means you can pay in Indian Rupees for an overseas purchase, rather than the foreign currency used by the country where the transaction is taking place.

While paying in INR might be easier, it also usually has extra markup fees attached to it and an exchange rate that's not optimal.

In general, it is best to pay in the local currency, if you can, to be sure of additional charges.

Card Re-Issuance Fee Updated

HDFC Bank has also revised the fee charged for replacing lost, stolen, or damaged cards.

New Re-Issuance Charges

Card Type

Fee

Non-metal credit cards

₹199

Metal credit cards

₹3,500

The fee covers:

  • Secure card processing

  • Monitored dispatch

  • Handling charges

The higher fee for metal cards reflects the premium material and manufacturing costs associated with these products.

Should You Continue Using Your HDFC Credit Card?

It will depend on your card.

If you use:

  • Infinia

  • Diners Black

  • Millennia

  • Tata Neu Infinity

  • Swiggy HDFC

But in case you have any kinds of cards like Regalia, MoneyBack, Freedom, Diners Privilege, the rewards amount may be reduced owing to the new spending threshold of ₹200.

Despite all these changes, some of the most popular credit cards at HDFC Bank include credit cards with features like:

  • Airport lounge access

  • Reward points and cashback

  • Dining privileges

  • Travel benefits

  • SmartBuy offers

  • Merchant discounts

Thus, the value proposition of the cards, overall, is not seriously affected for many users.

Our Review

This is not a very satisfactory improvement for most of the HDFC credit card holders, in our view.

Earlier, the users received rewards with every ₹150 purchase. Currently, rewards will be accrued for every ₹200 spent, meaning fewer rewards per spend.

What We Like

  • No changes for Infinia and Diners Black.

  • There are no changes in the cashback cards, such as Millennia, Tata Neu, etc.

  • Lounge is still accessible, and other perks remain.

What We Don't Like

  • Reduce rewards points on the same purchases.

  • Lower reward value of popular cards, such as Regalia and MoneyBack.

  • Less appealing for users who like to earn rewards instead of cashback.

Final Thoughts

HDFC Credit Card Reward changes 2026 bring a major change in the earning of the credit card reward points. Those who have classic HDFC cards like Regalia and MoneyBack will see a decline in their reward earnings as the spending multiplier changed from ₹150 to ₹200.

Apart from the rewards, HDFC Bank has also revised its charges for Dynamic Currency Conversion and the replacement of cards.

In case you already have an HDFC credit card, then it is worth considering these changes seriously and making some alterations in your spending pattern to get the optimal benefits. This doesn't impact premium cards such as Infinia or Diners Black, and cashback-focused cards like Millennia or Tata Neu will still come with the same rewards as before.
